Diversity in Physics Career Symposium
With the fifth edition of the Diversity in Physics Career Symposium — formerly known as the Women in Physics Career Symposium — we aim to broaden the scope of this event and benefit from its integration into the SPS Annual Meeting. Our goal is to strengthen professional and mentoring networks for early-career scientists across all dimensions of diversity, while maintaining a particular focus on supporting women, from the undergraduate level through the postdoctoral stage.
The event will take place on 28 August 2026 and feature a series of career talks that provide insights into navigating a career in physics from the personal perspectives of invited speakers representing different career stages. Speakers pursuing successful careers both within and outside academia will share experiences from key moments in their professional journeys. In addition, ample opportunities for networking, the exchange of experiences, and informal discussion will be provided during the breaks.
While the event is primarily designed to connect female mentees—from undergraduate students to postdoctoral researchers—with experienced mentors, we warmly invite participants from all career levels to register and contribute to the discussions and networking. We also encourage colleagues interested in acting as mentors to register (a list of 2024's mentors can be found here).
In the spirit of diversity and inclusion, we welcome participants of all genders, backgrounds, and ethnicities to join the event, share their perspectives, and learn from one another.
The event is sponsored by the University of Zurich, the Paul Scherrer Institute, the Swiss Academy of Sciences (SCNAT), and the Swiss Physical Society (SPS). Additional contributions and sponsorship are most welcome. Further details will be announced soon.
