Commission for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI)
Commission Foundation: February 2024
Chair: Dr. Philipp Schmidt-Wellenburg
Our aim is to foster a more inclusive, equitable, and diverse physics community throughout Switzerland. The composition of our commission reflects these values, comprising individuals from various regions of Switzerland and spanning a wide spectrum of educational and career stages within the field.
Our objectives are as follows:
1. Addressing the Gender Gap | We will investigate and address various factors contributing to the gender gap in physics, including early education stereotypes and the "leaky pipeline" phenomenon in academic careers. |
2. Promoting Community Awareness | We will facilitate effective communication and dissemination of accurate information within institutions that educate and employ physicists in Switzerland. |
3. Supporting Early-Career Scientists | We are dedicated to organizing ongoing initiatives, such as the "Women in Physics Career Symposium" and its associated mentoring program. This program aims to connect physicists at different career stages to provide support for early-career researchers. |
4. Cultivating a More Diverse, Equitable, and Inclusive Community | We will actively promote evidence-based approaches to support marginalized groups in physics, utilizing existing data on DEI in Switzerland and advocating for science-backed strategies to benefit both the field and society at large. |
